Payment Changes Proposed for 2023

They summarize each of the three regulatory rules, highlight changes specific to musculoskeletal care, then discuss the careful balance between stabilizing the system in the short-term while working towards a permanent fix that addresses growing health care costs and incentivizes value-based care.

U.S. Reps. Urge CMS to Adjust Global Codes, Maintain Fee Schedule Relativity
Earlier this week, U.S. Representatives Ami Bera, MD (D-CA) and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) concerning its policy regarding the values of evaluation and management (E/M) office visits within global surgery codes. Once again, the agency’s proposed changes for the 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (read AAOS rule comments) fail to incorporate the adjusted values for the revised office/outpatient visit E/M codes into the 10- and 90-day global surgery codes. The congressmen pointed out in the letter that this leaves surgeons systematically underpaid for services relative to other physicians performing the same services.
