Senate Approves Small Business Aid Package, House Expected to Follow Suit
On Tuesday, the Senate unanimously voted to pass a $484 billion COVID-19 relief bill that would allocate $310 billion to the Paycheck Protection Program, as well as $75 billion in grants to hospitals. The House of Representatives is set to pass the bill as well, after which it will go to President Donald J. Trump to sign.

| HHS Awards Nearly $165 Million to Rural Hospitals and Telehealth Resource Centers
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded close to $165 million to 1,779 small rural hospitals and 14 Health Resources and Services Administration-funded Telehealth Resource Centers to give technical assistance on telehealth so rural and underserved areas are better equipped to combat COVID-19.

| HHS Announces Additional CARES Act Allocations
HHS issued additional allocations of the funds approved in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The allocations seek to address the economic harm suffered by the healthcare system due to the cessation of elective surgeries, as well as the additional incurred expenses for caring for COVID-19 patients. HHS stated that $50 billion will be allocated to Medicare facilities and providers affected by COVID-19; $10 billion will go to targeted areas that have been hit the hardest by COVID-19, such as New York hospitals. Funds will also be allocated to treating uninsured COVID-19 patients.

| CMS Issues Toolkit to Aid Communities in COVID-19 Healthcare Decisions
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response released the COVID-19 Healthcare Workforce Toolkit, a new resource designed to help state and local healthcare decision-makers combat COVID-19 in their communities. The toolkit provides information on funding flexibilities, liability protections, and workforce training, as well as up-to-date best practices.

| CDC Will Fund 650 Health Workers to Assist in Testing, Contact Tracing
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will fund 650 state health department workers to assist more than 600 CDC staffers to help expand testing and contact tracing for COVID-19, according to NPR. Robert Redfield, MD, CDC director, told the outlet that $45 million will be provided for the new hires, which will include epidemiologists, nurses, microbiologists, lab technicians, and more.
