On January 16, 2015, current CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner announced that she would be resigning from the position at the end of February. Tavenner was confirmed as administrator in May 2013 after working as the secretary of health and human resources in Virginia.
“We have accomplishments to be very proud of,” wrote Tavenner, pointing to financial management, access to healthcare, fraud and abuse oversight, and greater data transparency. “I feel fortunate to leave here with a great sense of accomplishment, a wealth of knowledge, many new friends and the comfort of knowing that the citizens of this country and I are in great hands with all of you and your incredible drive and commitment to continue transforming our healthcare system.”
