Dear colleagues,
As you know, AAOS is leading the charge against significant reductions to work RVUs that were included in CMS’ final rule for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). Unless Congress steps in to block or delay implementation of this “efficiency adjustment,” a -2.5% reduction to work RVUs for most non-time-based codes is set to take effect on January 1, with additional reductions every three years. This cut will directly harm both private practice surgeons and those with employment contracts based on total or work RVUs.
I want to thank those who responded to our call last week. We only have 4 weeks left for Congress to pass legislation to prevent these wRVU reductions from going into effect, but only if every lawmaker on Capitol Hill hears from us and knows this must be a priority for end-of-year negotiations.
